Oxalyl chloride is an acyl chloride compound with the formula (COCl)2. It is a colorless, volatile liquid commonly used in organic synthesis to convert carboxylic acids into acyl chlorides or anhydrides. Oxalyl chloride is also used to prepare acid chlorides and as a dehydrating agent. It is highly reactive and should be handled with care.
