Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol used as a sugar substitute and sweetening agent. It has about 60% of the sweetness of sucrose but contains fewer calories. Sorbitol is naturally occurring in some fruits and vegetables but is also commercially produced. It is commonly used in sugar-free and dietetic foods, as well as in pharmaceutical and cosmetic products.
