Trimethoprim

Trimethoprim is an antibiotic commonly used with sulfamethoxazole to treat bacterial infections like urinary tract infections and respiratory tract infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial folic acid synthesis, thereby stopping bacterial growth. The drug is usually administered orally in tablet form or intravenously. It is often part of the combination medication known as co-trimoxazole.
